Mile 1045
The St. Elias Mountains. This range of mountains is largely responsible for Yukon's weather. They block the warm moisture-laden air from the Pacific Ocean from reaching the Yukon. This creates a very dry climate in the Yukon, as well as incredibly cold winters. The North American record low temperature was recorded in Snag, Yukon: -84 degrees F.!!

Mile 1052

Kluane Lake. A very large lake in a glacial valley between mountain ranges, right up against the St. Elias mountains.

Mile 1053
Silver City
ghost town.

Mile 1059

Derelict towers at Slims River, on Kluane Lake. These were used to carry an oil pipeline that was built during WW II.

Mile 1060

Slims River, south end of Kluane Lake.

The white soil is volcanic ash washed down by the river. When it dries out it blows up in dust clouds. These can be seen in the above picture.

Mile 1061

Causeway crossing the Slims River, south end of Kluane Lake.
