Mile 975

Indian cemetery at Champagne. They built little houses over each grave. I'm not sure if this a custom from before European contact or since.

Mile 980

Long faraway views of mountains, for miles!

Otter Falls.

At Mile 1000 the Aishihik Road runs north to Otter Falls and Aishihik.

Otter Falls was featured on the Canadian five dollar bill for many years.

Along the Aishihik Road.

Mile 1012

Haines Junction is in the distance. This is where the Haines Road runs south to the Pacific Ocean at Haines Alaska.

The mountains are the St. Elias Mountains. They are very high mountains and serve to isolate the Yukon from the warmer ocean maritime climate. As a result, the Yukon experiences the lowest temperatures in North America. The record being -84 degrees F, at a place called Snag, Yukon!

As well, summers can get quite warm.

Mile 1029
At Bear Creek Summit (elevation 3204 feet).
